CleanTheReef...
StableRoad and Our Reefs:
April, 2010. We're organizing a "Clean The Reef" debris removal project near, you guessed it - Stable Road. For decades, this reef has been the site of many activities... and as such, is possibly ready for a good clean up. The weather is perfect for diving, so we're wanting to get started ASAP. Divers, boat / jet ski drivers, participants wanted!
Feedback:
I love that you're organizing this! We should carefully evaluate how much growth has accumulated u/w before pulling things out. We take marine debris we pull off beaches at South Point, Big Island, to the H power plant and turn it into power with Matson's help. Let's get together and discuss this! Awesome!

Maui's Reefs
The coastal waters of Maui are blessed with a vast diversity of marine life and miles of exquisite coral reefs, making them some of the finest diving and fishing areas in the world.
Maui at The Turning Point
Hawaii has the fourth longest coastline of any state in the US, and fully one-quarter of our reef fish exist nowhere else on Earth. However, we rank 48th in the nation in funding for coastal and aquatic management. This is unfortunate, because our fragile marine environment faces many serious threats, including:
Overfishing
Spread of alien species AND coral-killing algae
Ecosystem destruction from coastal development
Pollution
Damage to reefs from boats and anchoring
